Tom Green County Hunger Coalition/Kids Eat Free

About the Organization

The Tom Green County Hunger Coalition strategically assesses the structure and procedures of local food delivery systems, identifies resources and gaps, makes decisions for change, and implements action plans to ensure that more people have access to healthy and nutritious food. We galvanize the community behind the cause, empower community leaders, build long-term bonds of collaboration, maximize effective use of resources and ensure mutual accountability for results. The Coalition works together to address nutrition education, hunger resources, community resources, faith-based initiatives, summer meals for kids, college food insecurity, and senior food insecurity through programs such as Kids Eat Free, Outrun Student Hunger, Blessing Boxes, food drives, San Angelo Pocket Resource Guide, the Food Insecurity Awareness Campaign, and other community programs. Our signature program of Kids Eat Free began in 2010 as a way to fill the gap for lunch meals for children in July and August after SAISD finished serving in June. From 2010 to 2024, Kids Eat Free has served 299,882 meals to children. their parents/caregivers, and the volunteers who conduct the program.
